At Renaissance Chiropractic we believe in the power of human potential, and that the healthy functioning of the body’s nervous system is essential for the optimal expression of that potential.
The spinal cord is the body’s main communication channel and it runs from the brain through the middle of the spinal column, or spine. The basic structure of the spine is a series of 24 moveable bones, called vertebrae, which form the backbone from the base of the skull to the pelvis. These vertebrae are stacked up like building blocks, each separated by a thick elastic pad referred to as a disc.
Every tissue and organ of the body is connected to and controlled by nerves from the spinal cord and brain. These nerves exit between the vertebrae. Interference in this flow of nerve energy causes a disturbance to the body’s function. The most common cause of interference is a misalignment of one or more vertebrae, called a subluxation. This can result in a decrease in the function of the nerves supplying the organs in that area, reduced mobility, and in extreme cases, pain.
Subluxations are often silent until well-progressed. There are many causes and they can occur as early as birth. Realignment of the vertebrae allows the flow of energy to return without interference and restores normal communication between the nervous system and body.
Many conditions respond to the removal of subluxations. There is an increase in motor function and flexibility, but also, the removal of the interference allows the body’s innate ability to heal itself, allowing it to function at its highest level. Laser Light Therapy
For centuries humans have understood the benefit of light on the human body. Based on scientific research over the last 50 years, we now know that specific frequencies of light have the ability to penetrate into the tissues, where it is converted into energy for therapeutic effects. Laser treatments are affordable and effective. Many insurance companies cover the expense. A treatment is available as an adjunctive therapy to chiropractic, or as a stand-alone therapy. A discount for a series of laser treatments is offered.
Massage Therapy
Renaissance Chiropractic Natural Health Centre offers Registered Massage Therapy by experienced and caring therapists. Massage therapy is now recognized for its value in treating many musclo-skeletal disorders. Performed by a properly trained therapist, massage can speed healing by increasing circulation and lymph drainage, help restore muscle tone and balance reduce pain and inflammation and cause natural endorphins to be released, thereby increasing the clients general feeling of well-being. Massage can also be used for purely relaxation purposes. Relief of stress and the release of endorphins may contribute to harmony in one’s life and fortify the immune system.
Your Registered Massage Therapist is Tenille Smith. She brings over 15 years experience in working with a variety of conditions. As well as practicing Therapeutic Massage, she offers Relaxational Massage, Aromatherapy and Chinese Cupping.

Custom Orthotics
The human foot is a strong and complex mechanical structure containing 26 bones, 33 joints (20 of which are actively articulated) and more than a hundred tendons, muscles and ligaments. Upon these two structures you support your entire weight and carry out a variety of physical activities. Custom orthotics are inserts for your shoes that are created specifically for your feet, providing support for all those structures.
Many foot problems can benefit by custom orthotics: plantar fasciitis, flat feet, bunions, heel spurs, neuromas, etc. Orthotics can also improve conditions of the knees, hips and spine by providing correct alignment.
At Renaissance Chiropractic Natural Health Centre great care is taken to fit orthotics. A physical examination as well as a computerized analysis and a foam casting are used to identify the anatomy of your foot and any associated problems. During the computerized analysis a patient stands on a computer plate on the floor for a “static” reading, and then is required to walk across the plate to access movement of the foot. This provides detailed analysis of your feet and an exact prescription for the best results.
